Research Labs
Gorman Lab at CSU, Chico 2019-Present
Gorman lab focuses on the genetics of idiopathic scoliosis (IS) with the aim of creating better screening methods and cellular defects in IS bone cells to create better treatments

Projects:
Validation of scoliosis gene candidates (undergraduate)
Using inbred lineages of medaka, our objective was identifying and validating candidate genes that cause curvature. One gene family was found to have a significant loss of function in fish with spontaneous IS mutation.
Phenotypic cellular differences in scoliosis bone cells (graduate) - current
Using medaka spines, primary osteoblasts are cultured from both IS fish and wild-type. A series of assays will be done on these bone cells to observe possible differences.
